The roar of Honda engines in the Indy series will be diminished next year as mufflers will be added to the requirements of this spec series.
But that’s not all.
The plan is that by 2011 turbo engines will return to Indy racing. This hasn’t been part of IRL since the infamous CART split. IRL is in talks with several engine manufacturers as they determine just what form and format the turbo engines will take. Word is that it could allow dual turbochargers, but displacement is still an unknown.
What about Honda? It appears that they are in favor the rules change and, like all the other potential engine manufacturers, looking forward to the finalized rules in December.
A turbocharger may be the best idea for a muffler yet.
